On June 14, the National Energy Administration released data on electricity consumption in the whole society in May. In May, the entire society consumed 722.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 7.4%. In terms of industries, the primary industry consumed 10.3 billion kWh of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 16.9%; the secondary industry consumed 495.8 billion kWh of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%; the tertiary industry consumed 128.5 billion kWh of electricity, a year-on-year increase of 20.9%. %; the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 87.6 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 8.2%. From January to May this year, the total electricity consumption in the whole society was 3,532.5 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%.
The relevant person in charge of the China Electricity Council said that the country’s maximum electricity load is expected to be about 1.37 billion kilowatts this year, an increase of about 80 million kilowatts from 2022. If extreme weather occurs over a long period of time and on a large scale, the country's maximum electricity load may increase by about 100 million kilowatts compared with 2022. During this year's peak summer season, the overall balance between electricity supply and demand across the country is expected to be tight.
At present, all localities and departments are actively doing a good job in ensuring the power supply during the summer peak. The relevant person in charge of the National Energy Administration said that since the beginning of this year, the national coal output has grown steadily, prices have fallen, and the supply of thermal coal has been stable and orderly. At present, more than 17 million kilowatts of supporting power have been put into production across the country, and the start-up and production of various power sources are in line with expectations. Data provided by the China Electricity Council shows that as of June 4, the coal inventory of coal-fired power plants of power generation groups totaled 113 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 21.35 million tons, the highest value in the past four years, and the coal inventory of power plants was available for 25.6 days. .
At the same time, the construction of power grid projects is accelerated and inspections of transmission lines are strengthened to improve the power system support capacity. It is understood that State Grid is constructing 239 key power grid projects for peak summer this year, and all will be completed by the end of June; China Southern Power Grid has completed annual physical examinations of 13 DC projects to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the main west-to-east electricity transmission channel. Electricity complementation and mutual assistance between provinces and the adjustment of surplus and shortage are also being strengthened.
